Our Work is Different!

Our Work is Different!

Our work can be divided into three parts: structure, function, and energy. Our work is unique in that we do not specialize in any one of the three. We work all three, and consider our energy work to be the most important of the three; and it is the easiest to be overlooked.

Of the other disciplines that work with energy, reiki is probably the best known. Our energy work comes from the training of Tanouye Roshi, and is very different from other energy work. It is active, not passive, in both the preparation of the practitioner and the receiver. The posture, breathing, and being in the present moment for both client and practitioner is basic throughout our training.

We differ from reiki and all others in the amount of confront needed to give and receive our work. We have found that to get the old, dirty ki out of the body, the client must first be willing to confront the pain and trauma he or she has stored in their aberrated tissue. They need to bring it into consciousness, look at it, experience it and be willing to let it go. The client’s connective and nervous tissue is then freed from the aberrations. The old, hard, brittle connective tissue becomes soft, resilient, young tissue. Old, unwanted patterns of movement are removed from the nervous system and replaced by new, desired patterns.

We have three goals when working energy; 1) to get the dirty ki out; 2) to get clean ki in; and 3) to get the clean ki circulating throughout the body. This requires a lot of preparatory work by the practitioner, and a lot of active participation from the client. It is a very dynamic process.

As mentioned above, our work consists not only of energy work. We also work with the structure and function.

Ida Rolf’s work dealt with structure, and we thank her for the recipe to restructure the human body. Ida made jokes about the Rolf recipe. She never wrote it down! It was a changing, living recipe, and I think it still is. However, basically it has not changed, and I feel it never will.

In our work, we call for more participation by the client as we weave function and energy work into the process. One eye is always on function and ki work as we realign, balance, and organize the body. This is different from any and all the other body therapies.

Our work with the way the human body functions is very different from the Feldenkrais methods. Moshe said that there were no stuck muscles, just stuck nervous systems. This seems about half right to me. All of his work deals with how the nervous system functions. How the nervous system functioned, so went the structure. The nervous system controls the muscles, and the muscles determine where and that the bones do. As Moshe would say, the nervous system controls the muscles which determine the structure.

We believe that as we change the structure we also change the function, and as you change the function so goes the change in the structure. We work at changing both – one time working the structure, next time changing the function, and always working on and with vital energy.

In our energy work we change the quantity, the quality, and we work to get free, unobstructed circulation through both the body of the client and the body of the practitioner.

I know of no other therapy that balances their work between the energy, the structure, and the function. That is the uniqueness of our work.

Neither Moshe nor Ida nor Tanouye Roshi would permit the word massage to be used in the same breath with their work. Anyone who knows anything about Ida’s and Moshe’s and Tanouye Roshi’s work is hard pressed to find any similarities in any way to massage.

The most important part of our work has not yet been touched upon. That is the way our work will allow not only the body but also the mind and the spirit to move together to a higher plane.

We are facilitators in the spiritual development of ourselves and our clients. Our work is indeed a path for both the client and the practitioner!
